Our submission process has changed recently, so we’d be grateful if you could read the guidelines below carefully before submitting.

Summer Issue: 1–15 May 2026 (Published end of June 2026)

Ongoing schedule (from Autumn 2026):

 

  • Autumn: 1–15 August (Published end of September)

  • Winter: 1–15 November (Published end of December)

  • Spring: 1–15 February (Published end of March)

  • Summer: 1–15 May (Published end of June)

Submissions outside these windows will not be considered.

How to submit

All submissions, except for haiga (see below), must now be made via our submission form below:

Please submit once only per issue.

What to submit

Please send your strongest work.

You may submit:

  • Up to 5 short form poems (haiku, senryu, tanka, haiga)

  • Up to 2 extended works (haibun, tanka prose, or related forms)

  • Book reviews

  • Essays

Haiga Submissions

 

All haiga (up to five) should be submitted by email:

waleshaikujournal@gmail.com

Please:​

  • include the image (with the haiku included) in the body of the email.

  • do not include credits within the haiga itself

Word Emporium submissions

Suggestions for The Word Emporium (words, ideas, or pieces) are welcome year-round via the submission form.

 Guidelines

  • Include your name (as you would like it to appear) and country of residence

  • Work may be on any theme, though pieces grounded in the nature tradition of haiku are particularly welcomed

  • Submissions must be unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere

  • Work must be your own original creation and must not be generated or materially assisted by AI

  • Paste all work directly into the form (no attachments)

Response times

We aim to respond within a few weeks.
During busy periods, this may take 6–8 weeks.

All contributors will receive a response.

Rights and publication

If your work is accepted:

  • Please do not share it prior to publication

  • Rights revert to you upon publication

  • Please credit Wales Haiku Journal as the first place of publication in any future use

  • We may also include accepted work in an end-of-year anthology or for promotional purposes
